Rules & Regulations
Introduction

Activities of the Lake Ripley Management District (LRMD) are directed by a Lake Manager and a seven-member board of directors.  The board consists of five elected members who own property within the District (serving staggered, three-year terms), and two appointed members representing the Town of Oakland and Jefferson County.  Elections are held during each Annual Meeting when the Board nominates eligible candidates to fill any open seats.  Any three electors may nominate additional candidates to be incuded on the ballot by submitting written nomination papers to the secretary at least 45 days prior to the Annual Meeting.

A full-time Lake Manager is charged with carrying out the directives of the LRMD Board, including the implementation of all lake-protection and improvement programs.  Some of the Lake Manager's responsibilities include:

  - running the Lake District office
  - developing and implementing lake/watershed-management plans
  - administering technical and cost-sharing assistance to eligible landowners
  - designing and installing pollution-control measures within the watershed
  - supervising weed-harvesting operations
  - coordinating monitoring programs related to water quality, invasive species and lake use
  - producing newsletters and other community outreach materials
  - obtaining and administering project grants
  - securing conservation easements to protect critical lands and habitats
  - managing 100-acre Lake District Preserve
  - conducting lake research to diagnose problems
  - directing litter cleanups, educational tours/workshops and other community events
  - working with state and local government to advance lake-protection policies
  - responding to citizen complaints, concerns and inquiries
